Situated in the small hamlet of Clappersgate only 15 minutes walk from Ambleside, The Old Dairy is the perfect bolt hole for those wishing to get away from it all. Once upon a time it was the old dairy to the former manor 'The Croft' set just behind the cottage, originally built around 1830 for a wealthy Liverpool sugar merchant.
The owners of The Old Dairy, Alison & Mark spent a long time searching for just the right property, since then they have made lots of good quality improvements and also retained lots of the original features including the hayloft which is now the perfect place to hide with a good book. Their love for the property and the area really shows, with lots of quirky niknaks, pretty fabrics and comfy furniture, all making this the perfect place to stay.
Entrance is into the hallway with space for boots and coats. The kitchen is perfect for two and is well equipped with everything you could need including a washer/dryer, fridge with ice compartment and a view over the cobbled courtyard at the front. The shower room has large walk in shower, sink and w.c, underfloor heating and heated towel rail... beautifully cosy with plenty of space to warm your towels. The bedroom is very pretty and romantic with a high ceiling, wardrobe, chest of drawers and double bed. The lounge / dining room looks out over the courtyard and has a solid wood floor, a comfy leather sofa, separate chair, flatscreen tv and electric fire inset also dining table and chairs to one side. Above the lounge is the hayloft, with it's own comfy seat and window, no better place to escape to with a book. (please bear in mind the low ceiling).
The Old Dairy has it's own slate bench overlooking the courtyard and guests also benefit from the use of a beautiful shared riverside garden just across the road , with seating overlooking the river .Parking for 1 car directly outside. The property benefits from gas central heating and wifi throughout.
We want our holiday cottages to be a 'home for home'. All the beds are made up ready for you, towels are included so no need to bring those, and shower mats are also provided. Two tea towels and a set of oven gloves/oven cloth will be in the kitchen along with a starter pack that includes: washing up liquid, kitchen roll, toilet roll, basic cleaning products, a bin bag in each bin. This is just to 'start you off'; you will need to buy your own once these have run out.
NB:There is one step into the property and to the kitchen and there are two steps down to the sitting room.
Please note: Not suitable for small children or babies, as insufficient room for cots etc

Comfortable and well equipped for all your needs and well located for all ages and lovely riverside walk into Ambleside. Give Goodlife a go you'll definitely come back again
The holiday was really good (apart from the weather). The cottage was excellent and everything we required was supplied. The Good Life team were friendly and knowledgeable, even providing us with a 24/7 emergency contact number which fortunately we never had to use. We have already recommended Good Life cottages to our friends and family. Thank you.
Good location for our first visit to the lake district.
The Old Dairy was an excellent base for exploring the area. we managed to find some lovely flat river/lakeside walks which suited our age group.
The Old Dairy is a good size for 2 people with a dog. You have to be a bit careful if you use the upstairs snug, it’s quite low! The real beauty for us is the location. Having milk (and more if you want it) delivered to the door is a useful option. The garden is across the road but not all cottages have one so we regard that as another positive.
A beautiful and well-equipped cottage
The Old Dairy was the perfect base for our Christmas holiday in the Lake District. The property was beautifully furnished and the Christmas decorations were a lovely touch. It felt so homely. The Good Life team were wonderful to deal with. I will definitely be recommending you and your properties to friends and family. Thanks again!
An exceptional well put together property, attractive and well equipped.
